LIRR Announces Completion of Third Track Project
Early October, New York Governor Kathy Hochul and the MTA celebrated the completion of the Long Island Rail Road’s (LIRR) Third Track project. The new 9.8-mile track runs from Floral Park to Hicksville, giving the railroad more operational flexibility to minimize service disruptions while improving safety and creating true bi-directional LIRR service.
Beat Harsh Winter Conditions with nVent’s Heating Systems
It’s no secret that snow and ice buildup on train tracks can cause major operational challenges that can result in rail service disruptions and compromised safety. To help combat these potential issues, nVent RAYCHEM and PRI have partnered to provide the North American transit industry with fully integrated heating systems for winter operations.
nVent’s Heating Systems Keep Transit Industry on the Move
PRI’s latest partnership with nVent RAYCHEM provides the North American transit industry with fully integrated heating systems for winter operations. These heating solutions are crucial for third rail electrification, which is typically used in rapid transit systems.
PRI, nVent Partner to Supply Third Rail Heaters for Third Track Expansion
PRI will be working with nVent to supply third rail heaters as part of the Long Island Rail Road’s (LIRR) Third Track Expansion Project. PRI will be designing and providing 24 PLC-based SCADA and control cabinets, 55 heating element contractor cabinets, 55 fused knife switch boxes, and additional heating elements.
PRI Updates SCADA System for 3rd Track Expansion
PRI has designed new SCADA software to reflect the additional third track being installed between Floral Park and Hicksville as part of the Long Island Rail Road Third Track Main Line Extension Project.
Main Line 3rd Track Expansion: MG Sets
The construction of a 3rd track from Floral Park to Hicksville is being undertaken to reduce train congestion and delays and enable true bidirectional service during peak hours with a more reliable rail network.
